How do I help the California coast or Lake Tahoe when I buy a plate?

For every ecoplate you buy for yourself, a family member, or a friend, the DMV distributes funds to the California Coastal Commission, or the California Tahoe Conservancy, and to the state Environmental License Plate Fund for environmental projects. For example, if you order the standard Coastal Commission WHALE TAIL^SM  plate, the DMV distributes $15 to the Coastal Commission, plus another $15 to the environmental fund. When you buy a Tahoe plate, the DMV distributes $35 to the Conservancy. Each time you renew, the DMV distributes the entire amount of your renewal fee.
