9. What happens if I sell my car?

If you sell your car when you already have your Whale Tail plate, you can transfer it to your new car. The transfer fee is $15 for a sequential plate, $45 for a personalized plate. If you sell or trade your car before you receive your Whale Tail plate, contact the DMV, enclosing a copy of the temporary ID or registration card of the new car.
